MANILA, Philippines — Here’s good news for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who want to register and participate in next year’s elections.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to mount a special registration tomorrow exclusively for the elderly and PWDs.

The Comelec said the special registration for senior citizens and PWDs will be held in all city and municipal offices of election officers.

Through its Twitter account, the Comelec urged the elderly and PWDs to avail themselves of the special registration.

The poll body said senior citizens and PWDs should declare themselves as such when they register as voters for the midterm polls.

“Such information is necessary in order for PWDs and senior citizens to be able to gain access to accessible polling places (APPs) come election day,” the Comelec said.

APPs are special precincts for persons needing special assistance, located on the ground floor of school buildings where the elections are being conducted.

Based on Comelec records, there were a total of 6,695,251 senior citizen voters and 318,013 PWD voters in the 2016 national and local elections.
