MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility continued to join forces with Tropical Storm Karding (international name: Yagi) in boosting the southwest monsoon.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said that the low pressure area off extreme northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression.

The tropical depression outside PAR and “Karding” are enhancing the southwest monsoon, which is bringing rains over Luzon.

Residents of Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and the western section of Central Luzon will experience scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains.

The southwest monsoon will also bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, Mindoro Provinces, Calabarzon and the rest of Cagayan Valley and of Central Luzon.

“Sea travel remains risky over the western seaboard of Luzon,” PAGASA warned.

“Karding” was last seen 1,060 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

It maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and 90 kilometers per hour while moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.

Tropical Storm Karding is expected to leave PAR between Friday night and Saturday morning.
