PAGASA: Storm off Luzon unlikely to enter PAR
MANILA, Philippines — The tropical storm east of Northern Luzon might not enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday morning.
Tropical Storm Jongdari (international name), last seen 1,515 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
It is traversing northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.
Although “Jongdari” is less likely to enter PAR and has no direct effect on the country, it will enhance the southwest monsoon.
Residents of Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Western Visayas will experience occasional rains caused by the southwest monsoon.
The southwest monsoon and the trough of the tropical storm, meanwhile, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.
Some local government units announced class cancellations due to lingering floods in some parts of the country. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
