Monsoon rains expected as 'Josie' leaves PAR
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or habagat, will bring monsoon rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Monday morning as Tropical Depression Josie moves towards northeastern Taiwan.
PAGASA said in its Severe Weather Bulletin on Monday morning that the tropical depression was 475 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes and moving northwest at 20 kph and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
Although no storm warning signals are raised anywhere in the country, PAGASA said scattered to widespread monsoon rains can still be expected over the following areas:
- Ilocos Region
- Zambales
- Bataan
- Cavite
- Batangas
- Mindoro
- Palawan
- Western Visayas
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and the Visayas may still experience occasional rains.
The weather bureau is also monitoring a low pressure area 1,230 km east of southern Luzon that may develop into a tropical depression within the next two days.
