MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Henry has slightly gained strength as it inches closer to extreme northern Luzon Monday afternoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

“Henry”—last seen 180 kilometers east-southeast of Calayan, Cagayan—is expected to traverse the Babuyan Group of Islands Monday evening.

It has maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour from the previous 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 75 kilometers per hour from the previous 65 kilometers per hour.

Moving west at 35 kilometers per hour, the tropical depression was forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility Tuesday morning.

The residents of Batanes, northern parts of Apayao, Ilocos Norte and Cagayan including Babuyan Group of Islands—which are under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal number 1—may experience occasional rains with gusty winds.

PAGASA advised fisherfolks not to venture out over the seaboards of these areas and the western seaboard of Luzon due to moderate to rough seas.

The southwest monsoon or habagat will also bring monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro provinces, Palawan and western Visayas, and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

Forecast positions

  • Tuesday morning: 625 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan
  • Wednesday morning: 1,455 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan
