LPA enters Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area entered the Philippine area of responsibility early yesterday and is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
The weather system was located 780 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 3 p.m., but PAGASA said it will have no direct effect on the country.
PAGASA said the low-pressure area was forecast to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours and would be locally named Henry.
The weather disturbance is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines. But PAGASA warned the southwest monsoon would continue to bring scattered rains over Zambales, Bataan, Batangas, Cavite, Mindoro, Palawan and Western Visayas.
“Residents of these areas, especially those living in low-lying and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flash floods and landslides resulting from heavy rains,” PAGASA said in an advisory.
Metro Manila and the rest of Calabarzon and Central Luzon, Marinduque and Romblon will also experience scattered rains from the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with rain showers and thunderstorms.
