MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) intends to hold more voters’ education seminars in schools and universities to encourage more students to participate in next year’s elections.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez yesterday called on school administrators and student groups to initiate Know Elections Better Seminar (#KEBs) in their schools and universities.

Jimenez said the Comelec is ready to work with various schools and universities for the holding of KEBs upon request.

“In line with the resumption of #VoterReg2018, you can now request Know Elections Better Seminar (#KEBs) sessions for your schools,” Jimenez posted in his Twitter account.

Requests for #KEBs sessions, Jimenez said, may be sent via e-mail at [email protected]. Jimenez said the voters’ education sessions would help in convincing students to become new voters as well as to wisely exercise their rights to vote starting with the 2019 midterm polls.

“VoterEducation is essential to an enlightened electorate and a sturdy democracy,” he stressed.

The Comelec launched the KEBs in 2017 with pre- and first-time voters like senior high school and college students as primary target.

The Comelec has since been conducting #KEBs sessions in schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
