MANILA, Philippines — Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales posted a net worth in 2017 of P56.615 million—44 percent higher than when she first assumed leadership of the Office of the Ombudsman in 2011.

In a tweet report by The STAR, Morales' net worth grew by P4.4 million in 2017; the ombudsman had a net worth of P54.13 million in 2016, according to her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

Seven years into the job, Morales has P17.778 million more than when she was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III. Morales declared a total net worth of P54.13 million in July 2011.

Before being appointed ombudsman,  Morales served as high court magistrate from Aug. 26, 2002 to June 17, 2011.

For 2017, Morales declared total assets worth of P58.615 million, which came from her real properties amounting to P19.639 million and personal properties worth P38.975 million.

She has also declared total liabilities of P88,000, which is credit incurred under “personal items.”

Morales is set to retire as ombudsman on July 26. Under the law, Morales will file another SALN 30 days after separation of service.

Ten lawyers have reportedly filed their application to take the seat of the country’s chief graft buster, including Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Martires, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, and Ombudsman Special Prosecutor Edilberto Sandoval.
