MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa is willing to accept in the police organization the PNP Academy (PNPA) cadets involved in beating their upperclassmen if they are cleared of the charges.

Dela Rosa said at least 20 cadets who were involved are young and could have been misguided.

The Silang police station in Cavite has identified nine cadets of the PNPA involved in the melee that resulted in serious injuries to seven graduating students allegedly beaten up by the suspects an hour after graduation rites last Wednesday.

The beating was allegedly part of the bawian or payback tradition of the academy.

The Silang PNP said a criminal case was scheduled to be filed at their office yesterday while pre-charge investigation would also be filed against 20 other cadets of PNPA Class 2019.

The PNPA Alumni Association Inc. condemned the act of violence right inside barracks at the PNPA compound.?Chief Supt. William Macavinta, PNPAAAI president, also supported the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Silang police to determine the individuals responsible for the severe injuries suffered by seven newly graduated inspectors.

“In light of the recent incident involving cadets and new graduates of PNPA, the PNPAAAI condemns the act of violence. Such act has no place in the academy, more so in a civilized society,” said Macavinta.
