MANILA, Philippines — No Filipino was hurt in a shooting incident that killed three people and injured two others in France on Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano extended sympathies to France after the hostage-taking incident, which happened at France’s southern town of Carcassonne.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of France today as they mourn those who lost their lives in the terrorist incident in Carcassonne,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“We stand with France and the rest of the world in condemning this incident,” he added.

Terrorist group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In her report to the DFA, Philippine ambassador to France Maria Teresa Lazaro said the embassy has not received reports of any Filipinos among the casualties in the incident.

Lazaro said the incident involved a 25-year-old French-Moroccan national who was killed by security forces after shooting two persons he took hostage at a local supermarket.

Lazaro said the gunman earlier killed one person and wounded another when he carjacked a vehicle that he used in trying to run over a group of police officers who were jogging at the time.
