Bebot wants to listen to Rody’s mind

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — If there is anyone alive whose mind House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez wants to listen to, it is President Duterte’s.

The Speaker played along with the “question-and-answer” game of television talk-show host Boy Abunda, who interviewed him on stage during his 60th birthday party at the lobby of the Tagum City Hall in Davao del Norte.

Alvarez answered that if he were to bring somebody to hell with him, it would also be the President.

“We are both going to hell because we are friends,” Alvarez said, making the more than 1,500 guests laugh heartily.

If there is anyone Alvarez wants to bring to heaven with him, it would be his girlfriend, Jennifer Vicencio.

Alvarez did not hide his admiration for Duterte, whom he described as the best President ever.

“You can see sincerity and two qualities – first, leadership; second, sacrifice – which Duterte possesses,” he said in Filipino.

“The President is a man who has courage,” the Speaker said.

Alvarez said leadership means one person can make things happen for the good of  the people.

“(Duterte) knows it. He decides on something even if it is not a popular decision and yet he knows that it is for the good of everyone,” Alvarez said.

The Speaker said one of his birthday wishes is for Vicencio, whom he fondly calls Jen, to be the one for him for the rest of his life.

He also wished that he would be given a longer time to serve his district in Davao del Norte.

“I want things to come naturally, Boy, to say what I need to say even if it may offend another person, as long as it comes from the heart it’s OK. As long as I don’t violate the rights of others, I am OK,” he added.

Alvarez said the best thing about being in politics is that one has the chance to change the nation.

He hopes the Church would realize that their members are their responsibility while government has a responsibility for all the Filipino people.

“I hope we understand one another. For instance, if I don’t agree with the doctrine of civil union, I hope this is imposed only on members of their church,” the Speaker said.
