Malls on EDSA back to regular hours
MANILA, Philippines — Starting on Monday, malls on EDSA will return to their regular operating hours, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.
The malls will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Jojo Garcia, MMDA assistant general manager for planning, said that late last year, mall owners agreed to operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. to address the traffic problem during the holiday season.
He said the MMDA is asking mall owners to retain the late operating hours as it significantly improved travel speed along EDSA by 9.29 percent from Nov. 29, 2017 to last week, as compared to the period before late mall hours started.
Garcia said that they gave mall owners time to decide on their request, adding that the mall owners are still waiting for their comprehensive study on the potential impact of the late opening on their income.
