MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte appointed yesterday Commodore Elson Hermogino as the new Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) commandant, replacing officer-in-charge Commodore Joel Garcia.
Duterte signed the appointment, dated Jan. 4, of PCG Maritime Safety Service Command (MSSC) head Hermogino as the agency’s 27th commandant.
Duterte also promoted to the rank of rear admiral Hermogino and three other officials – Garcia, Rolando Legaspi and Leopoldo Laroya.
PCG spokesman Capt. Armand Balilo said the PCG officers and men expressed their appreciation to Duterte for giving them a regular commandant and assured Hermogino of their full support.
