Police colonels next on chopping block — Palace

Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Police officers as high as senior superintendent (equivalent to colonel in the military) are next on the chopping board of President Duterte, especially those allegedly involved in corruption and other illegal activities, presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. revealed yesterday.

He did not name the officers to be axed or their alleged activities but stressed that they were given due process.

“Aside from the high-ranking government officials, the President said he would also remove police officers… from what I’ve learned, the investigation is almost done,” Roque said in Filipino during a radio interview.

The spokesman added that there are many in the list of those to be removed from post.He pointed out that the cleansing of the police force shows that Duterte is serious in the campaign against corruption in government.

“The point is, first, the President is serious in the campaign against corruption in the government. Second, the President does not discriminate – no friends, no classmates, no gun-firing buddy. If you fail, then you will be removed,” Roque said.

Apart from the top police officials, a high-ranking official in the executive branch will also be sacked by the Chief Executive within the first few days of 2018.
