MANILA, Philippines — The Russian Ministry of Defense on Wednesday will be turning over military equipment to the Philippine government.

The transfer of military products includes 20 units of multi-purpose vehicles, 5,000 units of AK-74M Kalashnikov assault rifles, 1 million units of ammunition and 5,000 units of steel helmets.

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to receive the military equipment from Russia on Wednesday morning.

The president will also visit Russian ship Admiral Pantaleev, where the turnover of the military equipment will be held.

Earlier this month, Duterte said that the military could expect rifles from Russia.

The president said that Russian officials have agreed to provide the Armed Forces of the Philippines 5,000 automatic rifles and 20 army trucks during his visit to Moscow last May. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
