Carl Arnaiz's parents file murder complaints vs cops, cabbie

MANILA, Philippines – The parents of Carl Angelo Arnaiz on Thursday filed murder complaints against two Caloocan cops and a cabbie whom they accused of killing their teenaged son without mercy.

Carlito and Eva Arnaiz trooped to the Department of Justice to file complaints of violation of Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code against Police Officer (PO)1 Jeffrey Perez and PO1 Ricky Arquilita.

Cabbie Tomas Bagcal, who claimed that he was robbed by Arnaiz, is also facing murder complaints.

Carl’s mother, an OFW in Dubai, flew back to Manila when she learned that her son had gone missing on August 17. After 11 days, she received a message from her daughter, Camille, that Carl had been found. She was directed to a funeral home in Caloocan City.

After confirming that it was her son’s body at the funeral home, she proceeded to the police precinct where she was told that Bagcal claimed that he was robbed by her son.

“Imposible magawa ni Carl Angelo ang panghohold-up,” Eva Arnaiz lamented.

She pointed out the inconsistencies of Bagcal in his two testimonies—dated August 18 and 29, respectively—such as differences in the time of the crime, if he can recognize the face of the assailant, and the number of assailants.

Carl’s mother also said that, due to nagging doubts on the circumstances surrounding the death of her son, she sought the help of the Public Attorney’s Office for a forensic examination.

'Carl tortured, did not fight back'

“Ayon sa forensic report, ang aming anak ay tinorture at pinahirapan muna bago siya pinatay. Ito ay salungat sa sinasabi ng mga pulis sa kanilang police report na nanlaban ng aming anak,” Carl’s mother lamented.

“Dahil sa mga salaysay ng testigo at sa mga pisikal na ebidensya na nakalap makikita naa walang habas na pinatay ang aming anak na si Carl Angelo M. Arnaiz ng dalawang pulis,” she continued.

Bagcal is also facing charges for allegedly making it seem that Carl robbed him and fired back at the police, while the evidence suggests otherwise.

Reynaldo “Kulot” De Guzman, the 14-year-old who was last seen with Carl, also went missing on the same night. Kulot's parents claimed that it was their son that was found floating at a creek in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija on September 6.

The identity of the body that sustained almost 30 stab wounds has been put into question after the Philippine National Police released the results of its DNA test, that they said shows Eduardo and Lina De Guzman's DNA do not match a sample taken from the boy.

Despite doubts on identity, the body believed to be Kulot was laid to rest on September 13.
