MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 2:37 p.m.)  A fuming former Bureau of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon retaliated against Sen. Panfilo Lacson and accused the senator and his son of smuggling cement.

“Ito ‘yung kinakatakutan niyo kasi nakikita na naming that's why you want us out. I can’t believe you are part of this, how can you explain this?” the resigned Customs commissioner said.

“Player ka ba? Player ba ang anak mo? Dummy mo ang anak mo?” he added.

The embattled former soldier also denied Lacson's claim that he received P100 million as a welcome gift when he assumed office last year.

In a privilege speech yesterday, Lacson exposed the “tara” system in Customs, where the whole office allegedly receives payola from importers.

Faeldon said he was shocked by the tirades from the senator whom he accused of grandstanding for the political ambition of running for president again.

“Gusto mo bang magpasikat? O baka tatakbo kang presidente ulit. You've proven that already. Do you want to do this at the expense of our families? Sinisira mo ang pangalan nila,” he continued.

He also dared the Senate blue ribbon committee chair, Sen. Richard Gordon, to investigate the shipments made by Lacson’s son.

Lacson reacts

Lacson, meanwhile, explained that he has nothing to do with his son’s business activities.

“If not I’ll be the first one to castigate him and initiate [the] filing of charges against him,” the senator said.

He also denied that there was smuggling of cement since it is only subject to value added tax (VAT) and not to customs tariff and duties.

“It doesn’t make sense that I will expose the shenanigans in the BOC if my son is cheating on taxes. The logical thing for me to do is not to make the expose and just keep quiet,” he said.

The senator said Faeldon should have filed charges against his son if he was really into smuggling.
