Voters urged: Meet April 29 registration deadline
MANILA, Philippines - The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) yesterday urged voters to register for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on or before the April 29 deadline.
PPCRV chief Rene Sarmiento issued the appeal five days before the deadline of voter registration.
Sarmiento joined the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in urging the public to register and participate in the polls.
He said every registered voter could make a difference, especially in barangay and youth elections.
“I appeal to qualified voters to meet the deadline to register. One single vote is important and can spell a big difference: victory or defeat for good and able candidates,” Sarmiento said.
By registering, he said, a voter does not only exercise his right to suffrage, but also ensures the fulfillment of three essential conditions of government.
The last days of the ongoing voter registration for the elections will continue despite the work suspension during the holding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit this week.
Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said they would not stop conducting voter registration even as it coincides with the country’s hosting of the international summit.
“We will still have voter registration. We are not affected by the work suspension order,” Bautista said.
