MANILA, Philippines — At least 71 percent of Americans view the Philippines favorably, a poll report said.

In the latest Gallup’s World Affairs survey conducted February 1 to 5, Americans’ views on 21 foreign countries were revealed.

Philippines and Israel were tied for the eighth spot with 71 percent ratings, while Canada and Great Britain emerged as the most favored countries with 92 and 91 percent ratings, respectively.

On the other hand, Americans gave North Korea and Iran the lowest favorable rating of 11 and 12, respectively. North Korea has been at or near the bottom of this list since 2003, according to Gallup.

The countries were rated into five groups: most favorable, favorable, mixed, unfavorable and most unfavorable.

The Philippines, one of the strategic and economic partners of the US, fell into the favorable category along with other partners India, Israel, Taiwan and Mexico.

The 21 nations were evaluated by Gallup through telephone interviews amongst 1,035 adults, aged 18 and older. Their landline and cellular telephone numbers were selected using random-digital-dial methods.

Gallup noted that all respondents are living in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia.

The poll had a margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. It added that all reported margins of sampling error include computed design effects for weighting.
