MANILA, Philippines — Amid a meeting with some Cabinet members and officials, Malacañang on Sunday congratulated Sen. Manny Pacquiao for his victory.

“Nais nating i-congratulate ang “Pambansang kamao” Manny Pacquiao para sa kanyang muling panalo,” Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a radio interview with dzBB.

Andanar said Pacquiao’s victory signals a possible rematch with boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Sabi natin maliwanag na posibleng makalaban ni Manny Pacquiao magkaroon ng Part 2 ang bakbakang Mayweather at Manny Pacquiao,” he said.

“Ganun pa man we want to cherish the victory along the Filipino people,” Andanar added.

The presidential communications chief, however, wishes that Pacquiao will fight with other boxers saying a rematch with Mayweather may only lead to Pacquiao’s retirement.

Andanar said they are at a meeting with Cabinet members Jun Evasco, Ernesto Abella as well as other members of Kilusang Pagbabago and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency but spared time to watch the fight of the Filipino pride.

He said there might be a scheduled welcome courtesy call for Pacquiao at the Malacañang once the boxing champ returns to the country.

“Ang galing galing [ni Sen. Manny Pacquiao], congratulations,” Andanar repeated.

The Palace also congratulated Nonito Donaire despite his loss.

Andanar said the boxer still brought honors to the Filipinos and the Philippine flag. Andanar encourages the Filipinos to follow the examples of Pacquiao and Donaire and urged the public show the same courage, grit and determination in the fight against drugs, crime and corruption.
