Bongbong confirms attendance to Duterte inauguration

MANILA, Philippines – After filing his poll protest against Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos on Thursday afternoon said he will attend the inauguration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.

At a televised press conference conference, Marcos said he was invited by Duterte, his friend, and he accepted the invitation.

“When you are invited by the president to come to his inauguration, you go,” Marcos said.

Marcos’s sister Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos was reportedly also among the almost 300 guests invited by Duterte. The 300 other guests are members of the diplomatic corps as well as senior government officials.

Duterte earlier said he had close ties with the Marcos family and even disclosed he was not keen on giving Robredo a Cabinet post for it might “hurt Bongbong’s feelings.”  Bongbong however said he is willing to accept any position requested by Duterte.

“If you are offered any position by any president that it tantamount to an order of a president,” Bongbong said.

“I would happily take on any responsibility that the president would like to give,” he added.

Duterte also said he is favoring the burial of Bongbong’s father, late strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. He is eyeing the burial by September this year.
