Sonny Dominguez reconsiders DOF post offer
MANILA, Philippines – Former Agriculture Secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez on Wednesday evening changed his mind and retracted his earlier refusal to accept presumptive president Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s offer to become his finance secretary.
Incoming presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo confirmed Dominguez’s acceptance of the Department of Finance post.
"Apparently he had a change of heart. Sonny Dominguez has accepted the post as secretary of Finance,” Panelo said.
Early Wednesday evening, Panelo said Dominguez declined the post due to “personal reasons.”
Dominguez, also a businessman, last week revealed the eight-point economic agenda of Duterte as part of his transition team. He is also the head of Duterte’s campaign finance committee.
On Monday, Duterte announced that he is getting Dominguez as DOF Secretary.
“I hope Sonny Dominguez would ah… He has had so many misgivings in the past about my offer but I hope he will consider and accept it. He’s going to get the Finance department,” Duterte said in a press briefing.
Dominguez also served as Cabinet member under the administration of former presidents Corazon “Cory” Aquino and Fidel Ramos.
