Duterte’s children proclaimed Davao City top execs

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Incoming president Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio has been proclaimed mayor of Davao City and his son Paolo vice mayor.

Sara and Paolo garnered 576,230 and 522,119 votes respecively, in Monday’s election.

Sara, who served as the first female Davao City mayor from 2010 to 2013, won by a landslide.

Her opponents Teodoro Mantilla and Kilat Tocante garnered 2,012 and 591 votes, respectively.

Sara did not campaign for herself but instead embarked on a 30-day Biyaheng DU30 journey on a bus that took her and her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and several other supporters on the campaign trail in the Visayas and Mindanao that ended last May 5.

Paolo  ran unopposed for vice mayor.

The Duterte siblings ran under the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party, which their father formed in the early 2000s.

In the congressional race in Davao City’s third district, Sara supported Alberto Ungab, the brother of outgoing Rep. Isidro Ungab, while her father supported the candidacy of Karlo Bello, the son of former justice secretary Silvestre Bello III. Ungab won.

Paolo also went against his father and endorsed long-time friend Sen. Francis Escudero for vice president. His father’s runningmate was Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Meanwhile, Rep. Karlo Nograles and Rep. Mylene Garcia-Albano won their respective congressional bids.
