Pinay faces death in Vietnam for cocaine smuggling
HO CHI MINH – A court in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday handed down a death sentence to a Filipina who was found guilty of smuggling nearly 1.5 kilos of cocaine into Vietnam in 2013, state newspaper Thanh Nien News reported.
Donna Buena Mazon, 41, was caught with two bags of cocaine at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on Dec. 31, 2013.
She came on a Qatar Airways flight from Brazil.
The woman said she was hired by a person known as Precious Rudica to bring the drugs to Vietnam for a fee of $3,000. She was provided with the flight tickets and visas. Authorities have not been able to locate this Rudica yet.
Manila is still trying to save another Filipina, Mary Jane Veloso, from execution on drug charges in Indonesia.
