University profs to Bongbong: Dictatorship is not 'golden age'

MANILA, Philippines – Several faculty members from various organizations and universities stressed that the dictatorship of the late President Ferdinand Marcos was not the "golden age" of the country.

A group of educators, including professors from University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, released a statement on Tuesday in response to the claims of Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on his father's regime.

The statement stressed that human rights violations during Martial Law were documented in the archive documents of the Commission on Human Rights, on the walls of the Monument of Heroes in Quezon City and in several books.

The faculty members vowed to continuously educate students and citizens regarding the "evils of dictatorship."

The following professors also expressed their strong opposition against the vice presidential bid of Marcos Jr.

Last week, more than 400 faculty members and formators from the Ateneo de Manila University released a statement condemning the "willful distortion" of the country's history.

The statement was in response to the call of Marcos Jr. that the judgment about his father's administration should be left to history teachers and students. – Patricia Lourdes Viray
