Poe, Binay statistically tied; Bongbong, Chiz share top spot in Pulse survey

Sen. Grace Poe and Vice President Jejomar Binay tied for the top spot in the latest Pulse Asia presidential survey released on Wednesday.

The survey, commissioned by ABS-CBN Corp., was conducted from February 16 to 27 among 5,200 respondents nationwide.

Poe scored 26 percent, statistically tied with Binay who obtained 24 percent while Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ranked third with 22 percent.

Former Interior Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II ranked fourth with 19 percent while Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago scored 3 percent.

On the other hand, Poe topped the second choice presidential preference survey with 29 percent.

Binay placed second with 22 percent followed by Roxas with 15 percent, Duterte with 12 percent and Santiago with 8 percent.

The respondents were asked to choose who among the remaining candidates would they vote if their chosen candidate decides not to pursue his/her candidacy.

The survey was conducted before the Supreme Court issued its decision to allow Poe to run for president in the upcoming general elections.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero were tied in the first choice vice presidential preference survey with 26 percent.

Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo scored 18 percent followed by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano with 13 percent.

Sen. Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV registered single digits with 6 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

Escudero took the lead in the second choice vice presidential poll with 27 percent while Marcos landed in second place with 17 percent.

Cayetano takes the third spot with 16 percent followed by Robredo with 12 percent. Honasan and Trillanes both scored 8 percent in the second choice survey.

The survey was conducted during the conduct of the first presidential debate held in Cagayan de Oro City on February 21. It has a ±1.4 percent margin error and a 95-percent confidence level.
