MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC)  and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday launched the first premium point-to-point (P2P) bus accessible for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The LTFRB said the premium P2P low-decker bus was designed with ramp and wheelchair slots for easy accessibility especially for PWDs.

It added that the bus can accommodate eight wheelchairs inside and is equipped with nine closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

The PWD-friendly P2P bus will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. with a regular fare of P55 from Trinoma, Quezon City to Makati. Students and PWDs will get a 20-percent discount or pay P41 if they ride the bus.

Only one bus will operate as the transport agency is still planning to increase the number of PWD-friendly buses.

On Wednesday, the transport agencies also launched a premium bus service for airports.

Transport Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said the DOTC is seeking to modernize buses so that they can provide service to PWDs.
