No weather disturbance seen in next 3 to 4 days

MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos may proceed with their planned outdoor activities to celebrate Christmas as good weather is expected in many parts of the country today and tomorrow, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

No weather disturbance is expected to affect the country in the next three to four days, according to Rene Paciente, chief of the marine meteorological section of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“There’s a slim chance of rains in many parts of the country on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,” he added.

However, the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley may experience isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

PAGASA also expects a surge of the northeast monsoon on Dec. 27, which may trigger rough to very rough sea conditions.

A total of 15 tropical cyclones have entered the Philippines so far this year, two of which hit the country this month.

Typhoon Nona (international name Melor) slammed parts of the Visayas and Luzon last week, leaving at least 40 people dead. It also destroyed more than P2 billion worth of agriculture and infrastructure, including 168,439 houses, 35 hospitals and 20 schools, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
