Bongbong: Vote for leaders who will push unity

Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Filipino people should vote for leaders that are committed to unifying the country and not those who insist on divisiveness, Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said yesterday.

Marcos lamented that part of the reason the country has failed to move forward as it should have was because of its leaders who engaged in excessive partisan politics.

“Ask yourself if this or that candidate is for unity. If not, then don’t vote for him or her. We can’t have stability if the government is filled with politicians who divide the people for the sake of politics or their own personal agenda or gain,” Marcos said.

A critic of the current administration, Marcos has repeatedly aired his disappointment at President Aquino for not engaging in moves that would unite the nation.

On several occasions, the President singled out Marcos and his family for failing to apologize for the abuses committed during the administration of his father, the late Ferdinand Marcos.

The President has also refused to give in to the request of the Marcoses for the burial of their patriarch at the Libingan ng Bayani.

Marcos noted the Filipino people possess traits and talents capable of improving the situation but are being hindered by too much politicking of government officials who promote their interests and the interests of their party mates, friends, close associates and relatives.

“The Filipino people are industrious, honest and resilient, that’s why our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) are preferred by foreign employers over other nationalities. Filipinos are very good but why do they remain in bad situations?” he asked.
