MANILA, Philippines - Suspended Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima has confirmed his attendance to Senate probe on the Mamasapano clash scheduled on February 9.

Purisima confirmed to attend the hearings prior to his alleged submission of his resignation letter to President Benigno Aquino III, which his lawyer denied on Thursday night.

Aquino reportedly announced Purisima's resignation to some some members of his Cabinet.

Malacañang refused to announce whether the President accepted the PNP chief's resignation or not.

Sen. Grace Poe, who heads the Senate Committee on Public Order, said in an interview with radio dzMM that Purisima has no reason not to attend the hearing.

"Kahit nga 'yung mga former officials kapag merong mga nababagong isyu at nandu'n sila ng mga panahon na 'yun, kailangan ay dumalo sila," Poe said.

The PNP Board of Inquiry is set to look into Purisima's breach of protocol on the Mamasapano operation which led to the death of 44 police commandos.

The Senate, on the other hand, will start its own inquiry on the said incident on February 9.

Some of the officials who have confirmed their attendance to the Senate hearings are Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Sec. Teresita Quintos Deles, Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin, Justice Sec. Leila De Lima, Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., among others.
