Voters’ registration won’t be suspended
MANILA, Philippines - Voter registration next month will not be suspended as planned since the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls will likely not be held.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said Comelec Resolution 9905 suspending the voter’s registration from Feb. 1 to 28 has been repealed.
“The voter’s registration will continue,” he said. “We will no longer suspend it because we are almost sure that SK will be postponed. We have some reports that the President will sign the postponement so there will be no problem.”
Last week, the Senate committee on local government had approved a bill recommending the rescheduling of the SK polls from February to October this year.
Voter registration would have been suspended to prepare for the holding of SK elections on Feb. 21.
