PNP arrests over 3,600 as gun ban ends

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Wednesday that it arrested more than 3,600 violators of the Commission on Elections' gun ban.
The PNP said a total of 3,695 persons were arrested for carrying firearms since the gun ban started last January 23. Today, June 12, is the last day of the gun ban's implementation.
Among the arrested violators are 23 soldiers, 52 policemen, a fireman, 42 government officials, 154 security guards and four militia men while the rest are civilians.
The PNP also reported that operating units also confiscated a total of 3,590 assorted low and high-powered firearms, 163 gun replicas, 1,082 bladed weapons, 242 grenades, and 515 explosive devices.
Authorities also seized during the six month gun ban a total of 30, 516 ammunition.
