Pinoy artist donates work to Phl embassy in Singapore

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino visual artist Jinggoy Buensuseco has donated one of his works to the Philippine embassy in Singapore, kicking off the embassy’s budding art acquisition program.

Buensuseso donated his large metal sculpture titled “Waterfalls.”

At a turnover ceremony at the embassy, Philippine Ambassador Minda Cruz received the artwork and signed the deed of donation with the Singapore-based artist.

“This important sculpture by a visionary artist is a welcome addition to the embassy’s and the Department of Foreign Affairs’ growing art collection,” Cruz said in accepting the donation.

“It is a prime example of Philippine art that deserves exposure beyond the borders of the artist’s country of origin,” she added.

“Waterfalls” is an abstract sculpture made of buffed aluminum created with the use of industrial tools such as the weld.

Embassy officials said the artwork would be given a prominent space at the chancery.

Buensuseco said the sculpture represents “life and the journey to different stages, showing that no matter what happens, life goes on like the continuous flow of the waterfalls.”

A furniture designer-turned-sculptor, Buensuceso recently exhibited his metal sculptures at Momentous Arts, one of Singapore’s top galleries, as part of the annual Philippine Art Trek IV.

He has also exhibited in New York and Manila.
