Hidilyn Diaz' homecoming
Hidilyn Diaz says China's weightlifting team was somewhat upset that her Chinese coach, Gao Kaiwen, did not disclose the potential gold medalist's progress while training.
In an interview with ANC, Diaz says:
“Hindi makapaniwala ang China na ganito na ako kalakas, then siyempre si Coach din, hindi niya na-share sa China. Medyo nagalit kasi ang China din sa kanya kasi hindi niya na-share kung saan na yung lakas ko."
Hidilyn Diaz is now in a virtual courtesy call with President Duterte.
"The nation is ecstatic about your achievement. Your achievement is the achievement of the Philippine nation. We are extremely proud," Duterte says, reading a prepared statement.
Duterte also extends a housing unit from the government for Diaz and her family in Zamboanga and an additional P3 million gift from him.
This is on top of the P10 million reward for her Olympic gold achievement from the government.
Hidilyn Diaz and other Filipino Olympic athletes who had ended their bid at the Tokyo Olympics have returned home.
The group touched down aboard a Philippine Airlines flight at the Ninoy Aquino Airport a few moments ago.
Diaz, now an Air Force staff sergeant, has changed into her military uniform as she is welcomed by cheering supporters at the airport.
