"The working poor are getting desperate with the extreme poverty ravaging their families during the lockdown period. Joey Concepcion, the presidential adviser for entrepreneurship, welcomes the timing of the reiterated lockdown, noting the economic activity is more muted during Holy Week.
In a news release, Concepcion says the plan should give the already burdened healthcare system a break.
He adds that the lockdown stresses the need to roll out the vaccination program more smoothly. "We really need these vaccines to come in. Hopefully, there will be no delays in the arrival of the vaccines, particularly with Novavax and Covaxin which we are helping our private sector access," Concepcion says.
Covaxin, developed in India, has already applied for emergency use authorization in the Philippines. Novavax's application, meanwhile, is still pending.
"As for AstraZeneca, expect no delays, we should get the arrival schedules soon. Moderna from the Razon group will be coming in the 3rd and 4th quarter," Concepcion says.
