Severe Tropical Storm Ramon continues to lash northern Luzon but PAGASA says it is expected to weaken into an LPA in the next 24 hours.

"Ramon" packs maximum sustained winds of 100 kph and gusts of up to 165 kph as of 3 a.m.

PAGASA is monitoring two weather disturbances inside the Philippine area of responsibility today: Typhoon Ramon which is forecast to make landfall over Babuyan Islands between this afternoon and evening and an LPA seen to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours.

"Ramon" (international name: Kalmaegi) which has intensified into a typhoon last night continues to barrel towards Babuyan Islands, PAGASA says.

The typhoon is moving west-northwest at 10kph.

Its center was located 120 km east of Calayan, Cagayan at 4 a.m. today.

"Ramon" packs maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 150 kph.

The state weather bureau says Severe Tropical Storm Ramon further intensified past 8 p.m. on Monday as it approaches northern Cagayan where it was seen to likely make a landfall between tonight and tomorrow morning.

The cyclone is expected to dump moderate with occasional to frequent heavy rains over Cagayan and Babuyan Islands, Batanes, the northern portion of Isabela, Ilocos Norte and Apayao on Monday night.

Light to moderate with intermittent to heavy rains, meanwhile, are expected over the rest of Ilocos Norte and Isabela as well as Kalinga and Abra. (Image from JTWC as of 10:20 p.m.)

Tropical Storm Ramon is forecast to make landfall over Northern Cagayan between tonight and tomorrow morning.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, state weather bureau PAGASA reports that Ramon was spotted 190 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, slowly traveling at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

It packs maximum winds of 85 kph near the center and gusts of 105 kph.

The bureau says the cyclone, which is moving northwesward, is likely to intensify before it makes a pass over land.
