In his Homily for the Holy Mass marking the first death anniversary of the late President Benigno Aquino III, Fr. Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin says:

Matters of state muna bago matters of the heart.

Vice President Leni Robredo, Sens. Franklin Drilon and Kiko Pangilinan, and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas attended the Mass held at the Church of Gesu, Ateneo de Manila University.

Opposition Sen. Leila de Lima says that Filipinos should remember how Ninoy Aquino showed "his indomitable spirit and love of country—by facing all the risks of returning to the Philippines and putting away his personal interests."

Detained Sen. Leila de Lima recalls the sacrifice of the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and has urged Filipinos to continue their fight for freedom .

Vice President Leni Robredo expresses gratitude to the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. for his sacrifices and "persistent commitment to defend the freedom."

In a statement marking the death anniversary of Aquino, Robredo says, "The simple truth is, Ninoy Aquino was a Filipino who gave his life for his country. His love for his homeland was seen not in easy talk or slick PR stunts, but instead blazed brightly through long years of imprisonment, of exile, and in the end, of martyrdom."

"Many talk about being willing to die for our country. Ninoy was one of the courageous few who actually did," she adds.
