A jeepney fare hike is already on the table following the staggering rise in fuel prices.
Maria Kristina Cassion, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) executive director, says there will be an en banc hearing on March 8 where officials will take up jeepney drivers' petitions to increase fares.
The government also has a service contracting program that provides PUV drivers fuel subsidies, says Cassion over dzBB radio.
Jeepney drivers who just recently purchased fare matrices for the previous fare price hike to P10 would no longer be able to refund the hefty fee following yesterday's announcement of a rollback to P9.
"When they applied for that, they were already been able to make use of the benefit given to them by way of the fare adjustment," Martin Delgra, chair of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, told CNN Philippines
Drivers reportedly shelled out P800 for the fare matrix for the previous adjustment.
The new rolled back jeepney fare is P9 for Metro Manila and Regions 3 and 4 following recent fuel price reductions.
The Department of Transportation says the lower jeepney base fare will be effective later this month, The STAR's Romina Cabrera reports.

There are no details yet on how much the fare reduction will be, but Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chair Martin Delgra says it is likely to be released within the day.
