President Rodrigo Duterte's claim that commuting in Metro Manila has improved glosses over problems with mass transportation, Sen. Risa Hontiveros says in a statement on the president's State of the Nation Address delivered earlier this week.
"The president, in his recent State of the Nation Address, was glossing over the real-life difficulties of commuters but we know that that isn't the actual situation for commuters," Hontiveros says.
She says the road transport expenses of ordinary Filipinos rose by nearly 20% during the imposition of quarantine lockdowns and that at least 70% of workers found it harder to go to and back from their offices during the pandemic due to limited public transport.
The Department of Transportation announces that students can now ride the MRT-3, LRT-2 and PNR for free during selected times in the morning and afternoon on weekdays except on holidays.
The terminal fee in airports and ports owned and managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Philippine Ports Authority, respectively, are also waived for students.
The Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board orders Grab to stop its P2 per minute charge.
During a hearing into Grab's alleged hidden charges earlier Tuesday, the LTFRB said that the ride-hailing service company did not notify the board when it implemented the questioned charge.
