Tropical Storm Basyang, with winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, has moved to 200 kilometers southeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands have been placed under a tropical cyclone warning Signal No. 1.

Moments after it made a landfall in Surigao, Tropical Storm Basyang (international name: Sanba) has weakened into a tropical depression, says state weather bureau PAGASA. It is estimated to move west northwest at 25 kilometers per hour, will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility Friday morning.

Tropical Storm Basyang, with its 55-kph winds and 74-kph gusts, is making its way to the area of Zamboanga on Tuesday morning, according to the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning System.

It is seen moving northwest (305 degrees) in a relatively slow pace at 35 kph.

At 8 a.m., state weather bureau PAGASA says Basyang is about to make landfall between Surigao and Dinagat provinces from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under a cyclone warning signal.

PAGASA says Tropical Storm Baysang is expected to make landfall in Caraga tomorrow.

Under the new warning signal 1 are the following areas:

  • Negros Oriental
  • Negros Occidental
  • Siquijor Dinagat Islands

Tropical Storm Sanba has entered the Philippine area of responsibility and renamed Basyang. PAGASA says that as of 10 p.m., it was located 870 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It had sustained winds of 65 kph near the center ang gusts of up to 80 kph.

Warning signals have been hoisted in the following areas:

    Dinagat Islands
    Surigao del Norte
    Surigao del Sur
    Agusan del Norte
    Agusan del Sur
    Camiguin
    Compostela Valley
    Davao Oriental
    Davao del Norte
    Misamis Oriental
    Bukidnon

"Basyang" enters PAR at 7 p.m. Sunday.

PAGASA releases its first severe weather bulletin on the tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

The weather disturbance has intensified and is now a tropical storm. It is expected to enter PAR tonight and will be named "Basyang" with the international name "Sanba."

Signal No. 1 is raised over Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
