Rep. Edcel Lagman says the Department of Education's move to change "Diktadurang Marcos to "Diktadura" in the Araling Panlipunan curriculum goes against the Republic Act 10368, which mandates the teaching of martial law atrocities by DepEd and the Commission on Higher Education.

Lagman co-authored RA 10368 and is himself a martial law veteran.

The Department of Education kicks off Brigada Eskwela, "a nationwide school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, efforts and resources in ensuring all public schools are set in time for class opening."

This year, the agency sets the Brigada Eskwela from August 14 to 19. 

During which, education stakeholders, parents, teachers, students and civic groups, among many others are expected to volunteer for the clean-ups, minor to medium repair and maintenance works in the classrooms within the school site.

DepEd says it will integrate climate literacy and supporting climate action in the basic education curriculum to hone learners.

It said it will include climate change concepts in the K to 12 curriculum in Science, Health, Araling Panlipunan, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, Mathematics, English, Filipino, Edukasyong Pantahan at Pangkabuhayan & Technolohy and Livelihod Economics, and Music, Arts and PE.

“The Department is committed to reviewing learning competencies relevant to Climate Change Education (CCE) and coordinates various offices and experts with enhancements needed in development-appropriate and multi-disciplinary climate change education,” it adds.

VP-elect Sara Duterte's spokesperson Reynold Munsayac says there is no scheduled meeting with outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo before June 30, but "there is a plan, however, to invite all former Vice Presidents for a fellowship lunch in the coming days."

The discussion will be on their alloted security from the VPSPG and planned Vice-President’s Museum.

"This will depend on the interest of the former VPs and would need a common available schedule for all," Munsayac adds.

The Office of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte says lawyer Reynold Munsayac will serve as her spokesperson starting Tuesday, June 21.

They add that Munsayac and Duterte were law school classmates and in 2017, the former assisted in the establishment of the worldwide aggrupation Tapang at Malasakit.

"In 2021, Munsayac resigned as Commissioner and Acting Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) to help campaign for Inday Sara. Munsayac’s professional portfolio is highlighted by his unquestionable integrity and dedication to governance and public service, and the Vice President-elect is confident that he will be able to bring this experience to his new duty," the statement reads.

Duterte says she will be holding a face-to-face transition meeting with the team of outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Briones on June 25, but arrangements have been made through written communications.

The incoming education secretary adds they are targeting to resume full in-person classes in August.
