WATCH: Celebrity designer Francis Libiran gives tips for picking wedding gowns
MANILA, Philippines — From Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, many stars seem to be getting engaged and hitched left and right.
For those walking down the aisle like these celebrities, fashion designer Francis Libiran, who will design the matrimonial garbs of celebrities Christian Bautista, Kylie Padilla and Aljur Abrenica, enumerated the qualities of the right wedding dress that could make one look like a star.
Timeless
“You want to be pictured in (something) that is years from now is still appreciated,” said Francis.
Balanced
“The details in your gown should look balanced and not overly done,” advised the designer.
He usually recommends ball gowns for those with big hips, and not necessarily to those who are eyeing for a royal wedding.
The wedding garbs of celebrities and royals could be good inspirations, he said, but these should not be copied as is and should be “balanced with reality.”
“I have to be fair and highlight their (brides’) assets… and work around the trend and not really say it will not work on the client,” Francis said.
Fits good
Especially for a royal wedding, a gown should be simple but highlighting the important assets, said Libiran.
Simple but with a wow factor
One can go for a clean and fresh design like Meghan Markle’s, but it should still look stunning, said Francis.
“There’s nothing more important than getting the right attitude on your wedding gown,” he enthused.
Instagram-worthy
Francis’ latest bridal collection at his Greenbelt 5 Makati shop, “Mon Amour,” focuses on more details on top “because a lot of focus on the brides is from the head to the waistline.”
“Especially now with social media, a lot of brides want to take selfies,” said Francis, who also designed the wedding gowns worn by Jodi Sta. Maria and Liza Soberano in soap operas, and real celebrity brides Maricar Reyes, Pauleen Luna, Tricia Centenera, Kaye Abad, and Max Collins. — Videos by Erwin Cagadas Jr.
