OPM legend Hajji Alejandro dies of cancer
MANILA, Philippines — Original Pilipino Music (OPM) veteran singer Hajji Alejandro has died at the age of 70.
Hajji's daughter Rachel Alejandro's manager Girlie Rodis released a statement about the veteran singer's death.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito ‘Hajji’ T. Alejandro," the statement read.
"At this time, we kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves thris tremendous loss. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time,” it added.
Chef Barni Alejandro took to Instagram to pay tribute to her dad, singing his song, “Ang Lahat Ng Ito’y Para Sa’Yo.”
"I can’t fathom a life without you. My heart is broken into a million pieces. You were my first love, my hero, my idol. Forever, your Yabs!" she captioned the post.
Hajji's long-time girlfriend Alynna Velasquez revealed last March in an interview with Julius Babao that Hajji was fighting against colon cancer.
Reports said the singer had stage 4 colon cancer.
Hajji started his career in the 1970s, and was known as the "kilabot ng mga kolehiyala" due to his captivating charm and smooth vocals.
He is known for his hit songs "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” “Nakapagtataka,” “Tag-Araw, Tag-Ulan,” “Panakip-Butas,” “If I Were Man Enough,” and “May Minamahal,” to name a few.
