Tribeca to open with music, thoughts of Boston

NEW YORK (AP) — The 12th annual Tribeca Film Festival is opening with a nod to indie rock — and to Boston.

The New York festival begins Wednesday night with a celebration of the Brooklyn rock band The National. Playing first will be the behind-the-scenes documentary "Mistaken for Strangers," made by Tom Berninger, brother of the band's lead singer, Matt Berninger. After the movie, The National will perform.

It's not the first time Tribeca has begun with a concert and documentary pairing. In 2011, Tribeca opened with Elton John performing after Cameron Crowe's music documentary "The Union."

Monday's deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon is expected to weigh heavily on the mood at this year's festival.

The festival was founded after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks as a way to revitalize downtown Manhattan.
