Ruru Madrid shares how sister Rere and Kai Sotto broke pregnancy news

“Double date with the buntis, bayaw, and Batas,” wrote Ruru Madrid in his Instagram post showing him with his girlfriend, Bianca Umali, his sister, Rere, and her husband, basketball player Kai Sotto.

Obviously, Ruru was referring to Rere and Kai as buntis and bayaw, respectively. What’s interesting was his description of Bianca as Batas (with a capital B).

“Si Bianca talaga ang batas ng buhay ko,” said the GMA Sparkle artist during his guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.”

“Hindi pa man din kami kasal ni Bianca, pero pinapraktis ko na ‘yung happy wife, happy life,” he added.

Ruru recalled that Bianca had played a key role in telling him that Rere was expecting a baby. As the eldest, Ruru admitted that he is very strict, which made Rere afraid to tell him about her pregnancy. So, Rere first told Bianca, who had been reminding Ruru not to be so strict with his siblings because they would keep even more secrets from him.

Ruru Madrid and Bianca Umali have been in a romantic relationship for eight years now. The GMA Sparkle actor describes his girlfriend as ‘ang batas ng buhay ko.’ He says that ‘Bianca is so beautiful, and I won’t ever find someone like her who gives much love to me.’

“Rere was thinking that I might get angry rather than happy once I learned about her condition. It was Bianca who guided me from the very beginning. I mean, prior to her (Rere) announcement that she’s getting married or her pregnancy, si Bianca ‘yung nagsasabi na huwag maging mahigpit sa mga kapatid ko kasi hindi sila mag-o-open up sa akin. So, from there, my perspective has changed,” he said.

“And about Rere, Bianca just told me that there’s something that Rere would like to tell me. So, ako after work at madaling araw, I was already thinking (about) what it would be? Naisip ko baka binubugbog siya ni Kai, but while I was driving home, I saw this full moon, and it crossed my mind that perhaps Rere is pregnant.”

When he reached home, Rere showed him the pregnancy test result. Ruru advised that it would be best to announce the news to their parents with Kai, who was then in Japan.

“Kai and I talked for four hours on the phone, and I admired his gesture of coming home despite his commitments in Japan. So, he could be with Rere in telling our parents. And then, he flew back to Japan the following day.”

Rere and Kai exchanged I do’s in a garden wedding ceremony last May.

I asked Ruru whether he believes in the Filipino practice called “sukob” (a wedding superstition that bad luck happens when siblings get married within the same year), in case he and Bianca decide to settle down this year. He said that he doesn’t believe in it as a member of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) and shared that he was delighted when Bianca finally decided to be officially converted to INC in 2023.

Ruru and Bianca have been in a romantic relationship for eight years now, and it’s no secret that they went through a rough patch. In fact, the former admitted that he once “faltered” when I brought up his previous statement on the GMA game show “The People Have Spoken,” where he said that “anyone can still change and we will prove it.”

I asked Ruru if he had already proven it, and he replied, “I’m gonna be honest, Tito Boy, na napatunayan ko na. I think that’s what I’m most thankful for to Bianca, that even though I committed a mistake during that time — I was only 20 years old. However, I’m not saying that my youth was an excuse for the mistake I made; I consider it a blessing in disguise somehow because from that experience, I realized Bianca’s value and how important she is to me.”

The actor further revealed that he and Bianca broke up for eight months but later on reconciled.

“She accepted me again. That’s why I say that anyone can still change no matter what kind of mistake a person has made. For me, Tito Boy, cheating is really a choice.”

After a tumultuous period in their relationship, Ruru has become more mature and responsible in his decisions and actions.

“First of all, Bianca is so beautiful, and I won’t ever find someone like her who gives much love to me.”

Ruru confessed that whenever he feels there’s temptation, he chooses to pray and reminds himself to do what is right.

“I will pray and remind myself that I must follow the law,” he said.

And by “law,” he means none other than Bianca.
