2-part 'Wednesday' Season 2 features more Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lady Gaga

MANILA, Philippines — Streaming platform Netflix officially announced the release dates for the second season of "Wednesday" starring Jenna Ortega.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series follows "The Addams Family" character, Wednesday Addams, and her life in Nevermore Academy.
Following the events of the debut season from 2022, Wednesday's younger brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), will be going to Nevermore, while parents Morticia and Gomez (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán) will have an increased presence on the campus they first met in 15 years ago.
The second season of "Wednesday" will be released in two parts. The first four episodes will drop on August 6 while the last four will come out on September 3.
Ortega told Tudum, Netflix's companion site, that the most exciting thing about Season 2 is being able to revisit what she considers "one of the coolest characters of all time."
"To have gotten the opportunity to play her once was incredible, and then to be able to slip into the costume and tone again, it's so much fun," Ortega said. "She runs circles around everyone that she has a conversation with, so to play someone who's so much more intelligent than you will ever be, it's quite funny and strange and enjoyable."
Gough told Tudum that the second season would expand the storylines of characters introduced before, in turn expanding the scope of breadth of the show.

"Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It's the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she's expecting. She thinks she's going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn't," added Millar.
Tim Burton, an executive producer and director on another four episodes this season, joked that having one's family at school is "the worst thing possible," recalling he never wanted his own parents coming to school.
The filmmaker expressed sympathy for Ordonez's Pugsley, calling him an outcast among outcasts.
"He comes into Nevermore for the first time, so we get to see his experience at school. Everybody has their own specialty power, and he's new to his own. He's just exploring his newfound teenage powers," Burton added.
Newcomers in the cast include Joanna Lumley as Morticia's mother, Hester Frump, and Steve Buscemi as Principal Barry Dort.
Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, and Christopher Lloyd (who played Uncle Fester in two "The Addams Family" movies) all guest star, with Lady Gaga appearing in a mystery role.
