‘Starlet ng Kamuning’: New housemate Shuvee Etrata shares hurtful tag as a celebrity
MANILA, Philippines — Former child star Xyriel Manabat and “Unang Hirit” segment host Shuvee Etrata are the two new official housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition,” and in her entry inside the famous house, Shuvee revealed the tag that hurts her the most as an aspiring star.
The housemates were tasked by Big Brother or Kuya to share the worst bashing they got as celebrities.
“‘Yung 'Starlet ng Kamuning' parang nasasaktan ako for GMA kasi nasa-shock din ako sa ABS-CBN, guys, nakakabasa rin pala kayo ng ganito,” the beauty queen-turned-host said to her fellow housemates, referencing the street where GMA Network is located in Quezon City.
Shuvee revealed that she grew up believing that she was an ugly duckling, adding that her skin color and looks were noticed by most people.
It was not until she started joining beauty contests and representing Cebu’s Bantayan Island that her perspective changed. She has grown to love and embrace herself fully.
But she would soon discover that when she entered showbiz, she would be met with the tag “starlet,” which has a negative connotation about being wannabes who will never make it as a legitimate star.
“But GMA believed in me. 'Di ko alam kung ano 'yung nakita nila sa akin …” she said.
She added while inside the confession room, “Totoo naman pero hindi ko alam, Kuya, bakit nasasaktan ako. Siguro din kasi, Kuya, masakit din na sinasabihan ka nila nang ganoon pero ginagawa mo 'yung best mo.”
She ended her sharing in front of the housemates, “GMA believed in me and that is enough for me to show to everybody what I'm capable of.”
In a similar vein, actress Bianca de Vera revealed that she has received comments about being a “Starlet of Ignacia,” a reference to the street where ABS-CBN is located.
“‘Starlet ng Ignacia.’ I feel like I'm blessed enough to be given the right projects, kaya feeling ko kaya nasasabi rin 'to kasi they feel like I'm not deserving of the roles that I'm given,” Bianca said.
Apart from it, she is also often called maarte, which she acknowledged but said that as long as she does not do ill of other people, she is okay with it.
"Ewan ko. Mali ba na hindi ako masyadong apektado because alam ko rin sa sarili ko na, okay sa ibang tao starlet ako pero alam ko sa Ignacia minamahal ako, naniniwala sila sa akin at tumataya sila sa akin kaya nga ako nandito sa 'PBB,' ‘di ba,” Bianca said.
