BGYO on Holy Week plans, career highs and lows

The members of the P-pop boy group BGYO have shared their Holy Week plans, including spending more time with their loved ones and celebrating Gelo and Akira’s birthdays.
Gelo hoped to celebrate his birthday on April 18 and be with his family. “And hopefully to catch up with my friends whom I haven’t seen for years,” he said during the “Star Magic Spotlight” intimate press conference held at the Coffee Project, Wil Tower, Quezon City.
Mikki and Nate, on the other hand, will spend quality time with their families in Quezon City and Cavite, respectively.
Akira, whose birthday is on April 27, will have an early celebration of his special day, while JL plans to go on a trip abroad with his family.
“We haven’t done that together. So, I hope it will push through this year,” expressed JL. “And if hindi man, makalabas kami ng Cavite or somewhere in the Philippines.”
The quintet has just launched their five-track, self-titled EP, including their latest music video, Divine.
Formed in 2018 via ABS-CBN’s “Star Hunt Academy” and debuted in 2021 with their track The Light, the group felt that they still hadn’t reached the pinnacle of their music career.

As JL elaborated, “Maybe for our younger selves, we have achieved it because this (has been) our dream ever since. But as BGYO, we feel like hindi pa siguro because we still have a lot of things to achieve as a group and we still have a lot to do and prove.”
Gelo chimed in, “Even if we aren’t able to achieve it now, we still feel that we’re still winning kahit hindi pa kami (a) success on our own terms.”
Moreover, the boys confessed that they sometimes “feel discouraged” when they face obstacles in pursuing their music goals but, nevertheless, are learning to conquer them.
“We are human, so there are times that we feel that way but at the same time, that feeling will teach us a lot on how to improve ourselves and how to handle such situations,” acknowledged Mikki.
For Gelo, the “solution” is to keep the group intact every time “negativity” arises. “We have to be there for each other. Kasi kapag mag-isa ka lang, dinadamdam mo yun, pag sino-solo mo, matatalo ka talaga.”
JL added that they used such challenging times as motivation for them to improve and do better.
Akira then echoed, “It’s a good thing that in those four years that we became BGYO, we learned ideas on how to improve and exchanged ideas on how to improve our social media and how to promote our songs.”
