TV5 levels up Kapamilya coverage
When ABS-CBN was starting out its programs on the TV5 grid, the extent of invitation to the Kapatid network was limited to press conferences. Now, TV5 is tapping News 5 to be actively involved in ABS-CBN’s promotional schedules. News 5 didn’t just have access to Batang Quiapo’s premiere screening, it was also tailing its parade in Manila and even having the stars promote the show on the flagship news program, Frontline Pilipinas, with yours truly. Photos show (clockwise, from top left) this columnist’s interviews with Batang Quiapo star Coco Martin, ASAP’s Ogie Alcasid, Batang Quiapo’s Lovi Poe and Magandang Buhay’s Jolina Magdangal and Melai Cantiveros.

The ABS-CBN studio is starting to feel like TV5’s annex. It could probably be really said so as this week, we started Sunday with the Kapamilyas at Studio 10 for ASAP Natin ‘To’s 28th year anniversary! It was followed by chats with this industry’s pillars such as Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and the Batang Quiapo himself Coco Martin and Supreme actress Lovi Poe.

We also did a studio visit for the momshies of Magandang Buhay, thanks to the awesome and warm welcome of program bosses Darla Sauler and Jasmin Pallera. The coverage was completely fun and smooth as we spoke to Jolina Magdangal and Melai Cantiveros, whose show started airing on TV5 last Monday.

After ASAP being the historically first ABS-CBN program to air on TV5 during the height of the pandemic in January 2021, Magandang Buhay is one of the banner shows of the Kapamilya network’s last to air on TV5. We talked to Melai and Jolina, who held the TV5 mic in glee, that finally since the network lost its franchise, the show found another footing via the Kapatid audience.

“Sobrang grateful kasi ngayon palang ma-interview niyo kami at itong microphone awww, so grateful sa Kapamilya at Kapatid na tinanggap niyo kami,” Melai shared.

“Lalo rin tayo na-inspire na gumawa pa ng mas mag-e-enjoy yung mga manonood sa atin dahil meron na tayong mga Kapatid,” Jolina added.

Martin Nievera, who is ASAP’s pioneer talent, also welcomed us warmly just by the door of Studio 10 and said, “The journey of ASAP as you know it, look how we ended up, we’re now family with the Kapatids. We have much more Kapatids than we can bargain for! We are so blessed with Kapatids!”

Ogie Alcasid also felt as if it was a full-circle moment for him being a past talent of TV5, and now, he is appearing again on the network as both Kapamilya and Kapatid.

“Alam niyo naman ang pinagdaanan ng mga programa ng ABS-CBN, and it was ASAP that had the benefit to be able to air and cross over to A2Z and eventually to TV5 and for whatever reason that is, only God knows and it really is a blessing,” he said. “Despite the difficulties, we soldiered on and here we are, ang sarap sa pakiramdam at nakaka-emotional.”

When ABS-CBN was starting out its programs on the TV5 grid, the extent of invitation to the Kapatid network was just until the press conferences. After this week and the megaserye FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, TV5 is also tapping News 5 to be actively involved in ABS-CBN’s promotional schedules. News 5 did not just have access to the premiere screening of Batang Quiapo, News5 was also tailing its parade in Manila and even having the stars of the shows aired live to promote on TV5’s flagship news program, Frontline Pilipinas, with yours truly.

The Kapamilya stars also started guesting in One PH’s One Balita Pilipinas and Frontline Sa Umaga. This is a welcome development and a better handshake from ABS-CBN and TV5 in also reaching out to more audiences and making them understand the unity that is happening on local television that the viewers could get more sense of.

This gesture is also a more transparent approach of what direction our audiences could expect when it comes to the content they are consuming.
