French-Filipina education advocate named Miss World Philippines 2022
French-Filipina and an advocate for education reform, Gwendolyne Fourniol is this year’s Miss World Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines — French-Filipina beauty queen and an advocate for education reform was crowned Miss World Philippines 2022 during the finals night held at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena last Sunday.

Dazzling in her royal blue gown, Gwendolyne Fourniol from Negros Occidental bested other 35 candidates. She will represent the Philippines in this year’s Miss World global competition.

The 21-year-old stunner was born to a French father and a Filipina mother. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in economics at Oxford Brooks in London, England.

Aside from the major title, Fourniol also won the Best in Evening Gown, Miss Silka, Miss Love Your Skin Award and Beach Beauty Challenge.

She was awarded P500,000, a one year contract at ALV Talent Circuit, Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Blue Water Spa, and Miss Megaworld.

During the question and answer portion of the Top 11, she was asked, “How do we cope with an education deficit accumulated due to the pandemic?”

“As an advocate of education, I do agree that during the pandemic, we have suffered the most, but the children who have a lack of access to education have suffered the greatest,” she replied.

“Working hand-in-hand with ERDA (Educational Research and Development Assistance) Foundation to empower the marginalized Filipino, I believe by uniting benefactors and encouraging our children and allowing them to go back to school, especially during this pandemic, will make this world a better place because education is the greatest weapon against poverty. Thank you,” she added.

Those candidates who also bagged other titles were: Miss Supranational Philippines Alison Black from Las Piñas; Miss Eco International - Philippines Ashley Subijano Montenegro from Makati; Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas Ingrid Santamaria from Parañaque; Miss Eco Teen Philippines Beatriz Mclelland from Aklan; Miss World Philippines Tourism Justine Beatrice Felizarta from Marikina; Miss World Philippines Charity Cassandra Bermeo Chan from San Juan.

Black won the Best in Swimsuit and Miss Non-fungible Beauty awards while Montenegro was named Miss Photogenic and Top Model.

Santamaria, on the other hand, was awarded Miss Non-fungible Beauty Award and Top Model as well while the Best in Talent award went to Chan.

Maria Gigante from Cebu also got the Miss Non-fungible Beauty Award and a Sports Challenge winner.

Completing the list of Special Awards include: Miss Kumu World - Kristal Marie Gante from Davao del Norte; Miss Love Your Skin Award - Justine Beatrice Felizarta from Marikina; Best in National Costume - Lady Justerinnie Santos from Bulakan, Bulacan; Ambassador of Goodwill – Tsina Jade Chu from Iloilo Province; Miss Multimedia - Simone Nadine Bornilla from Marinduque and Erika Vinculado from Roxas City; Head-to-Head Challenge winner - Charyzah Costales Esparrago from Taguig City; and Beauty With A Purpose – Anjie Mae Manipol from Quezon Province and Patricia McGee from Zambales.

Miss World 2021 Top 13 finalist Tracy Maureen Perez delivered her final walk and gave a speech about her advocacy for single mothers during the coronation night. Aside from Perez, the previous winners from the said competition also took their final walk on stage before passing on their crowns to their successors.

Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann, Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann and Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez hosted the event.

Filipino artist Adie serenaded the Top 11 finalists with his hit track Paraluman.
